Around 11:30 a.m. police released a detailing the cause of the shelter-in-place order was due to a search for a wanted man.
The U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force was attempting to serve an arrest warrant for 29-year-old Brian Acosta Melendez of 1913 Arlington Street Apartment number 1 "for Robbery and Firearms charges stemming from an incident that occurred on September 4th, 2023 in Sunbury PA Northumberland County," the Camp Hill Police explained.
But, Acosta Melendez fled, forcing the school district to lock down as police searched for him.
The school reopened and is operating on a two-hour delay.
The order was lifted around 10:45 a.m. according to the school:
"CHPD advised that shelter in place is now lifted. All children can return to school until normal dismissal times."
Acosta Melendez was last seen in the area of N.17th and High streets heading east, a witness told police.
"Acosta Melendez is no longer believed to be in the area and the public is not in danger," the police said.
The Camp Hill Police Department obtained an arrest warrant for Acosta Melendez for Flight To Avoid Apprehension.
He was apprehended by the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task in the 600 block of Dauphin Street, Harrisburg "without incident with assistance from the Harrisburg City Bureau of Police and Dauphin County Adult Probation," Camp Hill police explained in an updated release shortly after 6 p.m.
